Ramayana-Abduction of Sita

Inspired by the Hindu epic, this action packed story ballet depicts a timeless struggle between good and evil, and is enacted by four mythic characters; Rama, the just prince, Sita, his beautiful wife, Rahwana, the greedy ten headed demon, and his alluring but deceitful accomplice, the Golden Deer. Performed to a distinctive gamelan score peppered boisterous Balinese vocals, BALAM's Ramayana ballet delights and stirs its audience as Sita's magical journey runs the gamut of human emotion.  This action packed story ballet was first conceived in 1990 and gradually developed into BALAM's signature work.

- Music: a compilation of recorded Balinese gamelan music and vocals arranged by BALAM artistic directors, Pinder/Fittante, performed by the world renowned Sangga Semara Ratih of Ubud, Bali.
- Premiered as a quartet in July 2000 at the International Bali Arts Festival hosted in Denpasar, Bali .

Tigerlily & the Dragonfly

A fantasy duet en point inspired by Oleg Tambulilingan    This delightful work features a set of silk saris, iridescent pearls, and three foot bamboo wings

- Music: A contemporary gamelan score composed by I Ketut Carter, musical director of the Sangga Semara Ratih of Ubud, Bali commissioned by BALAM and recorded in Bali .

Hanuman the Monkey King

A celebratory ensemble work inspired by Ravel's Bolero and the Sun Salutation from yoga.   (Can incorporate additional dancers from your community)

Wayang Blues

A humorous duet following a bride and groom's descent into "happily ever after" that features the legendary voice of Etta James and incorporates video, masks and shadow puppets.

Teruna Jaya (Victorious Youth)
  
Teruna Jaya is performed at festivals, competitions and ceremonies in Bali. This popular solo is an amalgamation of four traditional dances including Legong, Oleg Tambulilingan, Baris and Jauk and presents a fusion of male & female movement patterns.
